Which background for jewellery photos?
White is still the standard for product pages and marketplaces: Amazon requires it for the main image. A coloured background or a material, stone, linen or velvet, gives character to collection visuals and social posts. Many brands use both: white for the product page, colour for the home page and Instagram.
Packshot, worn or styled: what a jewellery product page needs
The packshot shows the piece alone, from the front then three-quarters, for the size of the stones and the finish of the metal. Worn on a hand, wrist or neck, it shows the scale a buyer cannot guess on white. The styled shot, composed by a set designer, serves the collection and social media more than the product page.
How to handle reflections on metal and stones?
A reflection is fixed when the photo is taken, not in retouching. During the shoot, each photo lands in your gallery and you approve the angle with the photographer: a reflection that hides a stone or darkens the gold is fixed within the minute.
Preparing your jewellery before the shoot
Clean each piece and remove films and tags: a fingerprint shows in a close-up. Sort the pieces by item, with the list of photos you want for each. You send them to the studio in Levallois-Perret with the prepaid label provided at booking, and they come back to you if you choose the return.
